Freedom Sets Us Apart
At Path of Life Learning, we believe that a true educational experience extends beyond the classroom and includes the active involvement of parents and families. No longer is parent partnership a privilege for a few—it is an essential foundation for every student’s success. The Purpose That Drives Me
I became an education entrepreneur because I could no longer be quiet and comply with a system that goes against my beliefs about learning and children. I do not have the power to dismantle the entire crippling system of public education, I had to build a program that empowers learners and puts the power back in the hands of families–a program that was built in collaboration to encourage those from diverse backgrounds, with different abilities, and with unique gifts and talents.
I was a very bright but very troubled child. My home was broken, and my heart was broken. My young mind and body’s response to traumatic experiences was to fight against the world. I did not feel seen by my teachers and instead felt rejected because of the behaviors that clouded my potential. I became a public school teacher to right the wrongs I experienced in the system. I had a vision to build a culture where all students could feel valued, loved, and free to be curious. A place where they could realize their full potential. I was crushed when I came to the painful realization that the system was not built to support such ideals—it actively stifled them.
During my time in public education, I had the opportunity to travel and teach across the nation. I experienced a rigid system where things were not able to change based on student need but rather set in stone–students either failed or passed, and that was just the way it was. I felt trapped and disconnected from the purpose that once fueled me. The sense of hope I clung to began to fade, and I knew I couldn’t continue in a system that no longer aligned with my vision for education or the future of the children I served.
My frustration began turning into anger. I was angry for the students that I served, knowing that their opportunities for achievement were being stifled. I was angry for the parents, knowing that the system was intentionally stealing the precious role of parenthood while replacing family dreams and values with those created by a government system. There was a passion inside of me that could no longer be contained. The flame that was lit did not burn out. It began to blaze. I was slowly breaking free of the confines of the system that tried to keep me imprisoned for so long.
Alongside parents who shared my vision, we built a space where learning could be beautiful again—a space where children’s passions, talents, and individuality mattered. It was finally time to get it right. We could all breathe in the air of hope for a better future for the young lives reached. In the summer of 2022, Path of Life Learning was born.
This is the most beautiful side of education, and it is my greatest honor to watch it blossom.
The Path of Life Learning Experience
Our learners are a diverse group of students who come from various educational backgrounds. We have students that were unschooled, exclusively homeschooled, attended public or private school, attended other innovative education spaces, or a mixture of these options.
Path of Life Learning is a nurturing space where students from diverse learning abilities and interests thrive. While we do not have the resources to provide professional special education services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, or physical therapy, we embrace a variety of learning styles, ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Our cohorts are separated into three groups (K - 1, 2 - 3, and 4 - 6) for the academic portion of our day and then participate in desired activities during the student growth and enrichment portion. We have ten learners
in our kindergarten and first grade cohort, twelve in our second and third grade cohort, and twelve in our fourth through sixth grade cohort. Our model is built so that children are learning at their ability level rather than their grade level. For example, we have many students that go to another cohort classroom or group for their learning experiences so that they are appropriately engaged and challenged.
Students are given a variety of outlets to express their knowledge and skills. They have online curriculum, paper-based curriculum, collaborative opportunities, project-based learning, and opportunities to work with students within other cohorts. If a parent chooses, they may use our hand-selected curriculum choices that work well in mixed age settings, or parents can choose to send their child with the curriculum that the family selects. Regardless of the family's choice, the learning is flexible and designed so that all students can succeed.
All of our lessons and activities are selected based on the belief that students can show mastery in a variety of ways that are more natural to human growth, rather than the formal or standardized assessments you see in traditional settings. Our pillars of Path of Life Learning are Pursue Greatness, Achieve Success, Think Deeply, and Honor God. Our students and staff use these as a guide through our journey together. We believe that our students should have exposure to high quality academics while practicing skills such as reflection, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, goal setting, project planning, decision making, self-direction, adaptability, and excellent oral and written expression.
Students are exposed to several different learning opportunities and are able to vote on courses and clubs that spark their interest. Over the past two years, our students have participated in music, sports, art studies, foreign languages, coding, entrepreneurship, lego building, robotics, chess, gardening, photography, and performing arts. We encourage students to push themselves to an increased understanding of the world around them through exploration of these topics, and the results have been incredible.
Our Commitment to Free Market Education
Path of Life Learning is a K–6 micro-school committed to empowering students through individualized education, fostering personal growth, and creating opportunities for self-directed learning. The model offers families an alternative to traditional education, emphasizing choice over coercion and innovation over stagnation. It is not just a school—it is part of a movement to reclaim education from the clutches of government bureaucracy, demonstrating that progress happens when education is driven by free-market principles, shared values, and the entrepreneurial spirit.
Private Property Rights: Autonomy in Decision-Making
At Path of Life Learning, our operations are founded on ownership and autonomy. As founder, I created this school to reflect deeply held values, free from government mandates and constraints. This freedom allows me to innovate with curriculum design, learning methods, and operations to best serve the students without interference. Every decision I make aims to align with the principle that education is a service for children and families—not a sacrifice of them for bureaucratic systems. Private ownership gives me the incentive to continually invest in my dream, ensuring every resource is used to maximize student development and well-being.
Competition: Driving Progress Through Innovation
Our school operates in a competitive environment, where parents have several educational options. This competition challenges me to continuously improve and deliver better learning experiences, driving progress instead of stagnation. I've designed small class sizes, personalized curricula, and individual programs to differentiate ourselves. I believe that entrepreneurship in education is the antidote to the top-down control seen in state-run institutions, and my success is proof that families respond to high-quality alternatives when given the choice.
Consumer Sovereignty: Empowering Families and Students
Families at Path of Life Learning are not passive recipients—they are empowered decision-makers who shape the educational journey. My staff and I actively solicit feedback from parents and students, adapting the programs to align with their needs and preferences. This commitment to consumer sovereignty ensures that we remain relevant and valuable to the families we serve. By honoring the trader principle—where both parties freely engage in exchanges that benefit them—we foster relationships based on mutual respect and shared goals.
Limited Government: Education Free from Bureaucracy
Path of Life Learning operates entirely outside of government control. This independence allows me to provide an education aligned with the needs of my students, rather than serving the interests of bureaucrats. In contrast to the rigid, one-size-fits-all structure of public schools, my microschool offers a dynamic learning environment where every child is treated as an individual with unique talents and aspirations. I believe that when education is freed from the grip of government bureaucracy, it can truly thrive and serve the best interests of children.
Freedom of Choice: Expanding Educational Opportunities
My philosophy is rooted in the idea that families should have the freedom to choose the best educational path for their children. The current education market is dominated by government-run institutions, but Path of Life Learning is part of a growing movement to expand the range of choices available to families. I see a future where microschools like mine provide additional options to a larger market of families seeking alternatives. While I currently serve a small number of students, the potential market is vast—there are countless families who could benefit from a completely government-free education, one where students and parents are empowered to pursue their dreams on their terms.
Cost-Effective Innovation vs. Wasteful Bureaucracy
In every aspect of our operations, we emphasize efficiency and value creation. We use our resources strategically to ensure that every dollar contributes directly to student learning and growth, in contrast to the wasteful spending that plagues many public schools. Our lean approach demonstrates that education can be both high-quality and cost-effective when driven by entrepreneurship rather than bureaucracy.
Service to Children, Not Sacrifice of Children
At Path of Life Learning, I reject the notion that students should be sacrificed to political agendas or institutional conformity. This microschool exists to serve children—helping them discover their potential and develop the skills they need to flourish. I believe that education should empower students to pursue their goals, not mold them into subjects of the state. This ethos is reflected in everything I do, from the curriculum we select to the partnerships I cultivate.
